GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Both the George and Garden Route District municipalities are celebrating their third consecutive clean audit* for the 2022/23 financial year.
George Municipal Manager Dr Michele Gratz gave a special thanks to the CFO and his team, as well as all their officials, for this great team effort.
"A clean audit is based on three pillars, namely compliance with legislation, performance outcomes and financial processes," said Gratz.
"All of our municipal officials therefore play a role in ensuring that all three aspects are performed to the satisfaction of the Auditor General." George Mayor Leon van Wyk congratulated Gratz, the CFO and the entire team involved on behalf of Council.
"We are very proud of the perseverance and tenacity of our team as the accounting treatment and technical interpretations and requirements have become more complex over the past decade, especially so for large municipalities."

Hat-trick
Garden Route District Municipality shared their excitement with their "hat-trick clean audit", announced by the Auditor General last Thursday, 30 November.
"Congratulations to all employees and in particular, those from the office of the municipal manager and the Financial Services Department, who worked tirelessly in the background to help us to achieve another huge milestone, this time around for the 2022/23 financial year," said Monde Stratu, GRDM Municipal Manager.
"The GRDM is committed to its culture of good governance, accountability and sound financial management. The institution will keep the bar raised to the standard it has set out to."
* Clean audit: The financial statements are free from material misstatements (in other words, a financially unqualified audit opinion) and there are no material findings on reporting on performance objectives or non-compliance with legislation.
