21st celebrations 84 years in the making

People born on a leap day (29 February) will never have a "regular" birthday. So it was that, after 84 well-travelled years, Raymond Upson got to raise a toast to his "official" 21st birthday.

GEORGE NEWS - A 21st birthday birthday is a special celebration at the worst of times, but Raymond Upson, born on a leap year in 1940, had to wait a little longer than most! 

Finally, after 84 well-travelled years, Ray got to raise a toast to his "official" 21st birthday, surrounded by those closest to him. 

His children, scattered between South Africa, England and Australia, all came together in Cape Town to honour the occasion.

Ray and his wife Alison spent the day in Cape Town with his five children, eight grandchildren, and many of their closest family to enjoy the special moment together.
