This formed part of the Coastal Clean-up week.
"It is very interesting and quite shocking to see the volumes collected as well as what the most picked up items are," explained Lorraine McGibbon, education officer, Western Cape Region of WESSA. "About 100kg of litter was picked up."
This year, Noel Shaw's Umlingo Management Services sponsored 10 members of Men on the Side of the Road (MSR) to assist in the program.
"The guys were first told about the theory behind the initiative by McGibbon of Wessa, and hopefully they went away with a slightly better understanding of the litter problem we face, a message they can share with their families," says Shaw.
"It was very rewarding to see a smiling group of guys returning to the township, knowing they had contributed in a small way to the well being of their community."
