Download apps
Travel apps are designed to assist you navigate your way around city streets and even rural settings. Some of these apps include Waze, Sygic, Komoot and HERE WeGo. If you are travelling to a foreign country with languages you don’t understand, there are a number of translations apps you can download such as Google Translate, Microsoft Translator, iTranslate, SayHi Translate, WayGo and TripLingo.
Bluetooth connections
The temptation to pair your smartphone to convenience devices while you travel is very high. The danger in doing this is that information is sometimes stored long after you have disconnected which exposes your personal private details.
WiFi
WiFi networks are manually created. This means scammers can create traps with WiFi names that sound trustworthy or similar to legitimate nearby networks, e.g, Airport WiFi, once you connect your data is in the hands of scammers. Be sure to consult appropriate authorities or those in the know before you use available WiFi connections.
Use virtual private network (VPN) or https
A VPN adds a layer of encryption and security that is valuable when using any unknown connection. Alternatively, ensure that https is present in a web address before a site address. (i.e. webmail, social media, or any site that requires a login).

Location tracking and check-ins are a great way for scammers and criminals to tap into your schedules and possible routines and habits. It would therefore be in your best interest not to always use location tracking and check-ins especially automatic check-ins.
