Over 18 000 people studied
Researchers examined the dietary habits of more than 18 300 people. They found that when people increase their consumption of water by just one percent, they reduce their total daily calorie intake as well.
The difference water makes
How much extra water do we need to drink to make a difference? If could be as little as one cup. When people increased their consumption of water by one, two or three cups daily, researchers found the following:
- Total energy intake decrease by 68 to 205 calories daily
- Sodium intake decreased by 78 to 235 milligrams
- Sugar intake decreased by five grams to nearly 18 grams
- Cholesterol consumption decreased by 7 to 21 milligrams daily
