The American singer and actress has reportedly hired a team of acting coaches and writers to help produce a movie about Saartjie Baartman.
Baartman, a Khoikhoi woman born in 1789, was coerced by an English doctor to move to England in the 1800’s where she became the object of scientific and medical research because of her ‘unusual’ physical features.
She was then taken to Paris and exhibited as an ‘anthropological freak’.
She died in 1816.
Her body was returned to South Africa in 2002 to be buried in the Eastern Cape.
