GEORGE NEWS - A woman died in a car crash on the N2 near Great Brak River on Sunday 8 December.
Great Brak police spokesperson Const Laurianne Botha says a preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of a maroon BMW was travelling from George in the direction of Mossel Bay at about 20:30 when he lost control of the vehicle.
Botha says there were six people in the car, including the deceased. The driver and the other passengers were admitted to a Mossel Bay hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated. Botha says no other vehicles were involved in the incident. "We suspect that speed and the wet road, due to rain, were added causes of the accident."
The deceased has not yet been identified and the police investigation continues.
Western Cape provincial traffic chief Kenny Africa says there were three fatal crashes involving single vehicles this past weekend, including the crash near Great Brak.
He says the other two accidents happened Sunday 8 December on the N7 between Piketberg and Piekenierskloof Pass and on the N7 near Citrusdal.
Africa says motorists need to be sure that they are well rested before driving long distances. "Fatigue is a silent killer. Don't drink and drive, and don't use a cellphone or send text messages while driving. It is not worth it."
Africa says motorists should not overload their vehicles with passengers.
