GEORGE NEWS - Residents in Denneoord are trying to cope with low water pressure experienced in certain areas of their neighbourhood. A water leak in Dennegeur Avenue near the new water works plant is the cause of the problem.
Repairs are currently taking place and work is expected to extend until tomorrow. Municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose said special fittings and extensive cement work are required.
"Until the repairs are completed and the water restored, some areas in Denneoord may experience low water pressure," she said.
Jacques Theron, who lives on the property where the leak occurred, voiced his frustration with water issues in Dennegeur Avenue. "There have been problems with water for the last five months," said Theron. "When they initially fixed this pipe it was evident that the method used was only temporary. Water has been streaming out since last Friday."
Another neighbour from across the street, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the site poses a huge safety risk. "The hole was completely filled with water over the weekend. I was fearful that it might attract small children who might view this as a swimming opportunity."
