GEORGE NEWS - Local police are asking the community's assistance after a 26-year-old man from Conville, Daywin Jonas, was reported missing last week.
Jonas, originally from Joubertina but currently living in Conville, was reported missing by his family on Wednesday 26 July when he didn't return home after taking his car for a test drive with a potential buyer.
It is believed that Jonas was in the process of selling his car at the time of his disappearance and was driving to Hoekwil with the man on the day he went missing.
According to a source, the last time someone heard from Jonas was when he spoke to a friend over the phone as he and the man were driving through Wilderness. His car has also not been found.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies said preliminary investigation indicates that Jonas left his home in his white VW Citi Golf (CAW 23615) en route to Hoekwil, but never returned.
He was dressed in a red and blue tracksuit pants, black top and K-Way cap at the time of his disappearance.
A search is underway and the investigation officer, WO Ralton Mafutu, urges the public to come forward with any information that could ensure Jonas' safe return. Search parties as far as Pacaltsdorp have been activated.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts may contact Mafutu on 044 803 3302 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
Alternatively, information could also be shared via the MySAPS app.
Spies confirmed that there is no link between the missing person and a body that was found in Uniondale last week.
Police in Uniondale opened a murder docket after a severely burnt body was found by a passer-by in a rubbish bin on the N9 outside Uniondale on Thursday 27 July at about 12:00.
"Circumstances surrounding this killing are under investigation and the motive is yet to be established. The identity of the deceased still needs to be determined," said Spies.
