It did not take long before they were jostling for their turn on each item of apparatus and screams of gleeful laughter ensued.
School governing body members, St Paul's alumni, members of the Anglican Church, colleagues from Rosemoor Primary School, and Department of Education and Eden Municipality representatives joined members of the community at this joyous event.
With the assistance of Miss Eleanor September, a St Paul's Primary School alumna, the 31 grade R learners' swanky play area outside their classroom in Rosemoor is a dream come true. Decorated in brightly painted colours and fenced to provide safety for the young learners, the new equipment is solid and just what any young child needs for physical activity, social interaction, creativity and communication skills, while providing fun outdoors.
"I really want to salute Miss September and her family as well as St Mark's Cathedral, their youth and church council," said a grateful Mr Peter Titus during the opening ceremony. It was thanks to the concerted efforts of many hands - including those of Shae Benn and his youth from St Marks Cathedral in George who decided to put their group's funds towards the renovation - that smiles abounded on the faces of learners and teachers alike.
The added bonus for Ms Natalie Julies, the Grade R teacher, is that the use of this outside play area has been built into the daily programme of the Grade R CAPS curriculum. All that was left to do after the speeches, ribbon cutting by Mr Benn and the unveiling of the plaque, was to make way for some happy, energetic children to use their new fun, educational facility at school.
