GEORGE NEWS - In terms of the vision for George as a City for a Sustainable Future - George Municipality has as amongst other strategic objectives, the delivery of quality services and also the principle of Good Governance.
The current communication strategy for the George Municipality aims to enable the delivery of high standards of communication and the provision of information aligned with the municipality’s mandate and strategic goals.
The Executive Mayor of George, Charles Standers proudly announced to George Councillors and Directors last week, that as part of a Western Cape Provincial Government web site initiative, the official George Municipal website has undergone a complete refurbishment.
“George Municipality has reinforced the notion that communication must be open and transparent and that information channels must be accessible to all residents. This upgraded website is therefore an expression of the municipality’s vision, mission and strategic objectives,” he said.
Ten municipalities across the Western Cape received an online upgrade and Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell officially launched the ten sites on Wednesday 17th February in Cape Town.
“This project was kicked off by the Department in 2014 and aims to standardise municipal websites across the province. The new websites are standardised on a single platform that enables them to evolve in line with the Western Cape’s e-government strategy of enhancing service delivery through the use of technology for all communities.”
The new website is compliant with legislative requirements; has a user-friendly interface and incorporates identified functionality and standards for municipal sites. Key features include:
- An alert tab which will inform citizens of urgent information which the Municipality wishes to communicate;
- General information about the municipal area;
- Information about the Mayor, Councillors and administrative leadership
- The new features can be browsed at the URL: www.george.org.za
