GEORGE NEWS - A man who allegedly stabbed and killed a security guard inside Jam Alley Tavern in Sinethemba Street in Thembalethu on Sunday afternoon 3 December, died after he was beaten and set alight in an ensuing mob justice attack.
The deceased allegedly stabbed the security guard inside the tavern during an argument over a glass of beer. He tried to flee the scene, but members of the community apprehended and assaulted him. He was pelted with bottles and stones and set alight. The man succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
According to Eden Cluster Commander Maj-Gen Oswald Reddy, the mob justice victim was convicted of murder in 2010 and was out on parole when the incident occurred.
In an unrelated incident later on Sunday night, a man was stabbed to death in his sleep while at a friend's house. The incident occured in Ntaka Street.
The suspect (37) was apprehended on Tuesday and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court yesterday, Wednesday 6 December. The motive for the murder is still under investigation.
