GEORGE NEWS - A dream of the Anglican Diocese of George was realised last week Friday with the blessing of their new diocesan pastoral and administrative centre, Mpilo House.
The newly renovated property in 64 Nelson Mandela Boulevard (opposite the George Animal Clinic) is named in honour of the late Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu's legacy.
The church has owned the property for some time, but it has been a dream to renovate the dilapidated building to be used in service of the community.
Leaders of the Anglican Church attended the blessing of Mpilo House, led by the Most Reverend Dr Thabo Cecil Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town and Metropolitan of ACSA. The St Albans Brass Band entertained the prestigious guests during the event.
"I hope that it will not only be an administrative centre, but a pastoral centre also," said Makgoba. "I pray that it will be a place of life for the youth of the diocese where they can feel the presence of God. I hope you will look after your precious gift."
Father Jerome Prins, Vicar General of the George Diocese, said they want Mpilo House to be a place of help and hope.
"We want to lead from the front and address the problems faced by our communities. We want to make an impact."
