GEORGE NEWS - Do you know someone who unselfishly gives to our city without compensation or expectation? Someone who makes a difference in our community with passion and enthusiasm? If so, this person can be the next George Good Citizen of the Month!
George Herald has taken hands with We Are George and other major role players to promote and support the George Good Citizen Award initiative. The initiative was started in October to recognise deserving citizens who walk the extra mile to make George a better place.
A prize of R1 000 cash is awarded each month to the citizen who was voted George Good Citizen of the Month by the public on Facebook.
The entire George community can get involved by nominating someone special and by voting for who they think should win.
The person behind the initiative is Eden Lions member Sean Snyman, who says it is important that those who really make a difference are recognised for their efforts. "Awarding the ordinary heroes of George are certain to encourage and inspire all citizens to follow suit. If everyone makes a positive difference, we will soon be a shining example to the rest of the country."
Mikaila Hendrikz of We Are George, the main sponsor of the award, says We Are George is excited to be a part of this journey. "We love our town and its people and are so happy to support such a wonderful initiative. This award represents everything our members embrace: a better life for all in a safe, clean and caring environment."
We Are George was created by local businesses and residents with the vision of uplifting and improving George and boosting investment in the CBD.

Servaas de Kock, marketing and sales director of Group Editors, says as a local newspaper that is entrenched in its community, George Herald embraces all the values the award represents.
