GEORGE NEWS - George Acting Mayor, Charlotte Clarke, welcomed the Western Cape Fire Chiefs this morning (4 May), ahead of their joint provincial meeting and the International Firefighters’ Day celebrations this weekend.
Residents are invited to view a street parade in York Street this afternoon from 15:00. Over 30 fire-fighting vehicles are expected to join the parade, drawn from Fire Departments across the Western and Southern Cape.
The public are encouraged to wear red and blue in support and recognition of the sacrifices that our firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are kept safe.
On Saturday (5 May) eight firefighting teams, including one ladies team, will showcase their skills with challenges such as the “Hose Roll”, the “Fireman’s Carry” and the “Tyre-flip”.
The public is welcome to attend the event being held at the Garden Route mall from 10:00 to 16:00.
