GEORGE NEWS - Eden Radio Club held another Hota (Heritage on the Air) activation in George on Saturday 10 June at the old George Town Hall.
Originally called the Centenary Hall, it was built in 1911 to commemorate the centenary of the founding of George. Corné Conradie and Willem Cilliers ZS1WI set up the club's field station, Eden Radio Club ZS1ERZ.
It was a blue sky and sunny day in George with no wind and ideal for a radio field day. Within minutes the field station was up and running and about 10 quick HF (high frequency) contacts were made on the air, ranging from East London to Cape Town.
The club members met there with chairperson of the George Heritage Trust, Willie-John van Niekerk, who was delighted by the way the club is bringing the historical sites of George and the Southern Cape to life again.

Says Corné Conradie of the Eden Radio Club, "The heritage of George and surrounding towns is very special to us. We need to dig them up and create awareness for young and old, therefore we ask the public to help by letting us know about any such sites that they know of. We hope to see another interesting activity next weekend and are going to share these details in due time."
Interested persons should keep an eye on the club's Facebook page and YouTube videos.
