SUID-KAAP NUUS - The Eden police cluster recently held an awareness campaign in Ladismith to promote senior citizen safety. On Wednesday 14 November all 13 stations in the cluster took part in the programme with the focus on domestic violence, drugs and alcohol abuse.
"Women who are victims of domestic violence are sometimes afraid to lay charges against their husbands. They get beaten up and accept the apology afterwards," said George communications officer, Sergeant Michael Opperman.
During the programme children were reminded to obey and respect their parents and grandparents. Oom Hans Muller from Dysselsdorp entertained the crowd with his sing-along songs; the drum majorettes showed off their skills; while the Calitzdorp senior citizens got serious with beautiful gospel songs.
Eden Cluster commander Major-General Oswald Reddy empowered the 150 attendees by teaching them how to deal with conflict.
