Community urged to take a stand against abuse

GEORGE NEWS - The Anglican Parish of Simon of Cyrene is taking a stand against the horror of abuse against women and children.

They recently embarked on a campaign to highlight the plight of these vulnerable people and they are taking to the streets for three picket sessions in July, concluding a march to the George Civic Centre on 29 July. Talks will also be presented at the church on Wednesday evenings.

Struck by the scale and intensity of abuse, rape and murder of women and children in the Western Cape in the last six months - most recently in Touwsranten - the church resolved to take this action and to educate the next generation of men in the church and community.

They call on the local churches, the community and organisations in Rosemoor to join the demonstrations and tell others about it, and to encourage them to break the silence against abuse.
The first scheduled demonstration took place in front of the church last Saturday

1 July.

The next dates and places of the picketing and march will be:
Saturday 15 July: 09:00 - 11:00 - Corner of Beer and Langmark Street, Rosemoor

Saturday 22 July: 09:00 - 11:00 - Knysna Road, at the traffic lights opposite Pick n Pay

The march on Saturday 29 July: 09:00 - 11:00 - Start in Landmark Street, Rosemoor and end at the George Civic Centre.

Three talks will be held at the Simon of Cyrene Church, Rosemoor on 12, 19 and

26 July (Wednesdays) from 19:00 to 21:00.

The church is also drawing up a petition that will be handed over on the day of the march.
