GEORGE NEWS - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is opening all 22 612 voting stations across the country this weekend - 10 and 11 March - as part of a national campaign to update the voters’ roll in preparation for the 2019 elections.
All voting stations will be open on Saturday and Sunday, 10 and 11 March, from 08:00 to 17:00 to assist new voters to register, allow already registered voters who have moved since they registered to re-register in their correct voting district, and allow registered voters whose address details are not on the voters’ roll to provide this information.
George Mayor, Melvin Naik, encourages all voters in George to ensure their address details are correctly recorded on the voters roll this coming weekend.
"George is a dynamic, growing city with many new residents as well as locals who have moved to different wards in the same municipality since the last elections in 2016," says Naik.
Voters are required to take their identification document (a smart card, green barcoded ID book or valid Temporary Identity Certificate) to the voters' station when they register or change information.
You can register if you are a South African citizen and at least 16 years old (although you will only be allowed to vote from age 18).
Proof of residence is not required.
An online facility for registered voters to review and/or provide their address are available at www.elections.org.za/MyIEC Online updates must be logged by the end on May 2018.
