GEORGE NEWS - The public is invited to join the Garden Route Botanical Garden (GRBG) in an educational and interactive afternoon of alien clearing on 18 March from 14:00 to 17:00.
You will learn about the difference between indigenous and alien plants, the role and impact of invasive alien plants on the environment and how government and independent sectors take on the challenge of managing the spread of these plants.
Bring your gloves, closed shoes and sun hat - and if you have any tools to fight aliens, such as a panga, axe, knife or tree poppers, bring that too!
"In March we will focus on how to remove and control invasive alien species that grow in our indigenous forests, such as elderberry, bugweed, tarwood and eucalyptus, to name a few," the management of the GRBG said in a statement.
Although the event is free of charge, people are asked to support the GRBG initiatives by paying the R20 entrance fee and visiting the Marshmallow Garden Café for refreshments.
For more information, call the GRBG on 044 874 1558 or visit www.botanicalgarden.org.za.
