GEORGE NEWS - Members of George Police made 404 arrests for various crimes during October.
Among these, 21 were arrested for minor crimes like riotous behaviour, and 120 for drunk and disorderly conduct.
All these successes are due to joint crime combating operations by the George Police in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies such as local and provincial traffic officers, municipal law enforcement officers, neighbourhood watches and reservists.
Other suspects were arrested for dealing and manufacturing drugs.
During October, George detectives arrested and sentenced the following suspects:
• 1 suspect was sentenced to 16 years and six months in prison
• 2 suspects were sentenced to five years in prison
• 3 suspects were sentenced to three years in prison
• 22 suspects were cautioned and warned not to commit crime again or face a court appearance
• 72 suspects got straight convictions while others were let out on bail
George Station Commander Brigadier Victoria Mavakala commended all those who contributed towards bringing these culprits to book. She further encouraged the community to remain vigilant and keep assisting the police in ridding their neighbourhood from criminal elements.
