ELECTION NEWS - On the eve of the national and provincial elections that mark 25 years of democratic rule in South Africa, the provincial electoral officer in the Western Cape, Courtney Sampson, said all is going according to plan.
He called on South Africans to use the opportunity to cast their vote responsibly.
"Realise that you will encounter other South Africans at the voting station, people with dreams and aspirations like yourself."
He reiterated that every registered voter who visits a voting station will be able to vote, but called on voters not to wait until the last minute before going to the polling stations.
"Even if you should arrive and join the line at 20:55, you will be allowed to vote, but we encourage voters to rather turn up early."
Group Editors reporters caught up with Sampson at the IEC Results Centre in Cape Town, where provisions are made for representatives of the participating political parties and members of the media to follow the voting process.
At this moment preparations are ongoing, with the media settling in and political party representatives taking up their allocated workspaces.
It is expected the results centre will be much busier as of early tomorrow morning (Wednesday) and until the last result is received, probably by late Friday evening.
