Update
GEORGE NEWS - The two men accused of the murder of Mark Lifman, Gert Bezuidenhout and Johannes Hendrik Jacobs, are scheduled to have their bail appeal heard in the Western Cape High Court tomorrow, Thursday 8 May.
Their initial bail application was denied in January by the George Magistrate's Court, with the court citing a compelling case presented by the state.
The state is expected to oppose the bail appeal, maintaining that it has a strong case against the accused.
The main murder trial has been transferred to the George Regional Court, with proceedings set to resume on 1 July.
Lifman was fatally shot on 3 November 2024 in the parking lot of the Garden Route Mall. Shortly after the incident, Bezuidenhout and Jacobs were arrested near Uniondale, approximately an hour from the crime scene.
At the time of his death, Lifman was out on bail and was due to appear in court for the 2017 murder of Brian Wainstein, an international steroid dealer. Lifman, along with alleged underworld figures Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and André Naudé, faced multiple charges, including murder and gang-related offenses.
