GEORGE NEWS - The man arrested in connection with a triple murder in Thembalethu in October 2024 has abandoned his bail application.
Sipho Nontwana (44) was arrested on Sunday 29 March following ongoing police investigations into the fatal shooting of three men in Nelson Mandela Boulevard, Zone 8.
The victims, aged 32, 38 and 41, were found with multiple gunshot wounds and declared dead on the scene.
Nontwana has since appeared in the George Magistrate’s Court on three counts of murder. He was scheduled to bring a formal bail application on Friday 10 April, but abandoned it.
Southern Cape Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies confirmed the matter remains under investigation, and the motive for the killings has yet to be established.

Two arrested after off-duty officer is shot
In a seperate case, two suspects made their first appearance in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 7 April following the shooting of an off-duty police officer at the beginning of this month.
The case was postponed to today, Thursday 16 April, for formal bail applications, but by the time of going to press, no further details about this appearance or the proceedings had been confirmed.
The incident had occurred in 26th Street near the Truns nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday 1 April.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the 30-year-old officer had allegedly become involved in an altercation with a suspect, who later returned with reinforcements.
Shots were fired, and the officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and leg. He was admitted to hospital in a critical condition and has since been discharged.
The suspects, aged 31 and 34, were arrested in George and Oudtshoorn respectively after an intensive investigation by the Thembalethu detectives.
