SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Two men have been arrested and dagga worth an estimated R460 000 confiscated in Prince Albert thanks to the vigilance of the Central Karoo District Flying Squad.
The first arrest took place on Thursday 18 September at about 07:30 when officers stopped a bus during a vehicle checkpoint at Prince Albert Road.
A search uncovered 18 parcels of dagga weighing 35,4kg hidden in travel bags. The 41-year-old driver from Du Noon, Cape Town, was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Just a day later, on Friday 19 September at about 07:10, the same unit stopped a minibus taxi at the same checkpoint.
A search of the trailer revealed another 18 parcels of dagga, this time with a street value of about R180 000. The 26-year-old driver was arrested on the same charge.
Both suspects remain in custody and are due to appear in the Prince Albert Magistrate’s Court on Monday 22 September.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said the vigilance of these members once again demonstrates their commitment to curb drug trafficking along the entry and exit routes of the Western Cape.
Provincial detectives responsible for narcotics are investigating. Police management has commended the unit for removing a significant consignment of drugs from circulation.Some of the confiscated drugs.
