GEORGE NEWS - Uncle George Parties started last year and were very successful with over 1 500 people that attended. This year we have over 2 000 people registered to come.

The organiser, Clinton Barratt, went to these parties as a child in Cape Town.

There is a massive castle and a clown and a magician and a marching band and Noddy and their friends handing out ice-creams, and then at supper time they are singing Christmas carols under the stars – and then the real magic starts.

The kids and parents blow the lights out and call for Santa, but first they have to sing Santa Claus’ favourite Christmas carol… then they hear the chimes of the castle and if they’re lucky they will hear his sleigh and voila! SANTA arrives!

And then they call for the fairy and - Surprise! – two fairies come to visit them! Then it’s time for Christmas presents. It’s a fun evening!

This is not run by a company or an organisation. It’s a fun group of volunteers who wanted to bring this FUN evening to George and the Garden Route with the help of many sponsors.

Clinton Barratt has a passion for these parties and with hardly any sleep last year (and this year ) put a lot of effort into these parties with the help of many volunteers.

"It’s all about bringing happiness and smiles to the kids and parents and the Christmas spirit. You must remember, we did it last year in Covid,” he says.

“People were tired of sitting at home and were looking to get out. These parties are set on the beautiful Step Aside farm, only 6km from the George CBD. I can remember, last year a father was more excited than the child. It is a lovely family outing and it’s all about being a ‘child’ again. We all were once children and children have a wonderful imagination."

Barratt wants this to be an annual event in the Garden Route area and he believes it will be. This is a one-of-a-kind event in the Garden Route - just ask the 1 500 people who were there last year.

A portion of the proceeds from the parties gives much-needed relief to organisations in the area such as GARDEN ROUTE FOOD PANTRY and Môreson Children’s Home and Furever cats NPC.
