GEORGE NEWS - The Western Cape walked the walk in this year's prestigious AA Accommodation and American Express Awards, which rates the top accommodation establishments across the country. Thanks to Moontide Guest Lodge in Wilderness, the Garden Route stood proud against luxury B&Bs in the fiercely competitive Winelands and Cape Town region.
Moontide, a sprawling 4-star guest house located under Milkwood trees on the banks of the Wilderness lagoon, was the only lodge outside Cape Town and the Winelands to achieve finalist status in the category ‘B&B Guest House, Large’. This is the fourth consecutive year that Moontide has achieved finalist status in this category.
"What makes this particular award so special," says proud owner Maureen Mansfield, "is that it is based purely on the feedback received from actual travellers who have experienced various establishments throughout South Africa during the year. It is not just a sample of one or two critics, but literally thousands of guests who submit their opinions about the places where they stayed while on holiday - and of course it is the guest's opinion that counts most in my book!"
The other guest houses to achieve finalist status in this category were Riversand Guest House in Newlands, La Fontaine Guest House in Franschhoek and Beauclair Guest House in Stellenbosch, with Beauclair walking off with top honours. None of the other provinces had a finalist in this category.
Moontide Guest Lodge is situated directly on the banks of the tranquil Touw River and local residents are invited to join overnight guests every Sunday for a delicious champagne breakfast on the terrace overlooking the lagoon, or on cooler mornings under thatch in the luxu-rious dining room.
