The school prides itself on the attention lavished on each child with only 15 little ones in each class for different age groups - each with its own dedicated teacher.
The need for a special pre-school became evident when, last year October, Bonita Mellon started a one-on-one swimming school in Heather Park.
The swim school's numbers grew dynamically within the first month and by December over 55 children were swimming in George Swim School's water. With the need for swimming lessons becoming clear, the requests for a school followed and so the nursery school was born. George Little Farm Pre-school & Nursery was officially opened on Monday 3 March.
Little Farm boasts four spacious classrooms to start the learning process in a natural environment. To carry learning and life skills further, there is also a touch farm including bunnies, ducklings, a tiny piggy as well as a big jungle gym and large outdoor aviary.
Heading up the school is Bonita Mellon, who is a remedial teacher among her many other qualifications.
"We want the youngsters to be able to learn and absorb life in a natural environment. The children will enjoy healthy surroundings and organically grown snacks and food," she says.
"Children will be able to see how things are grown and will help take care of our animals and birds so that they learn a love of nature from a young age.
"The aim is also to help them make the transition to Grade 0 easily and with all the skills needed once they have to go to school."
The George Swim School is based at the Little Farm School and the children will also be taught how to swim and float from a young age, which will be included in the monthly fee.
The Little Farm School is in Wattle Street, Heather Park and Bonita Mellon can be contacted on 082 301 1064 for more information.
