BUSINESS NEWS - With more than five decades of medical experience, Dr. Evert Jean Jacques van der Horst has become a respected name in both conventional and alternative healthcare.
Practising from George in the Western Cape, he is not only a seasoned general practitioner but also a trained expert in traditional Chinese medicine, including acupuncture—making his approach to healing truly holistic.
Dr. van der Horst holds qualifications from the University of Pretoria, as well as advanced training in clinical pharmacology and Chinese medicine through international institutions, including studies in Lanzhou, China.
Over the years, he has worked with leading research groups across South Africa, Europe, China, and the USA, with a strong focus on pharmaceutical development, statistical medicine, and drug safety.
His passion for education and medical advancement has earned him several honorary titles, including Honorary Senior Lecturer at MEDUNSA and Honorary District Surgeon in Johannesburg.
He has also authored numerous reference works and health guides in both pharmacology and traditional medicine, and continues to contribute to the academic and professional training of healthcare practitioners.

Recognised internationally, Dr. van der Horst is a Life Member of Zheng’s Acupuncture Research Group and a researcher with the Hong Kong Traditional Medicine Chamber. His involvement in shaping the curriculum and assessment for Chinese medicine practitioners in South Africa highlights his commitment to maintaining high standards in the field.
