Update: The road closure has been cancelled until further notice.
GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality advises that the N2 between Pacaltsdorp Bridge and Eden Place (formerly Rademacher's) will be temporarily closed due to essential electrical work being carried out by the George Municipality.
Overhead electrical lines will be lowered and moved across the N2, necessitating a complete closure of this section for safety reasons.
The shutdown will be from Thursday 19 June at 23:00 until 03:00 on Friday morning.
During this time, both directions on the N2, between York Street and Knysna Road, will be completely closed to all traffic.
Closure points include:
- The York Street / Beach Road off-ramps to the N2
- The Nelson Mandela Boulevard / Thembalethu off-ramps to the N2
- The Knysna Road off-ramp to the N2
Traffic from central George will not be able to access the N2 in either direction, and vehicles approaching George from Mossel Bay or Wilderness/Knysna will be diverted before the closed section. manage traffic and ensure safety.
From Mossel Bay towards Wilderness/Knysna:
- Exit the N2 at the York Street off-ramp
- Proceed along York Street towards the traffic circle at York/Courtenay Streets
- Take the second exit into Courtenay Street
- Continue along Courtenay Street to Knysna Road
- From Knysna Road reconnect with the N2 eastbound (towards Wilderness/Knysna)
From Wilderness/Knysna towards Mossel Bay:
- Exit the N2 at the Knysna Road off-ramp and continue to George
- Proceed along Knysna Road towards Courtenay Street to the traffic circle at Courtenay/York Streets
- Take the first exit into York Street
- Continue along York Street to reconnect with the N2 westbound (towards Mossel Bay)
Important reminders:
- Please plan your travel ahead of time to avoid delays.
- Social media updates will be shared once the work has been completed and the N2 is re-opened.
- The road will re-open earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule.
- Pedestrians are requested to avoid the area for safety reasons.
- No disruption of electricity supply to any areas is anticipated.
Note: Signage will be in place to assist with detours, and Provincial Traffic Services will be on site to manage traffic and ensure safety.
