GEORGE NEWS - One of the services offered by George Municipality is community halls that can be hired for various purposes.
The 15 halls are run by the Facility Management Section, which falls under the Directorate of Corporate Services.
The section is led by a manager, supported by three supervisors and a team of hall cleaning and support staff.
These halls have recently received upgrades.
All hall bookings are processed in terms of council-approved policy, which prescribes the procedures for the hiring of community halls. To book, contact Rozendra Thysse at the municipality by phone on 044 801 9115 or by email on rsthysse@george.gov.za.
The halls and their upgrades are as follows:
- George Civic Centre, which includes the Main Hall, Banquet Hall and Conference Hall: Ablution and hall lighting have been upgraded and the gas burners and fridges were replaced.
- Pacaltsdorp Community Hall: Received a kitchen upgrade and electrical problems were resolved.
- Conville Community Hall: Ablution facilities were tiled and new fencing installed.
- Blanco Community Hall: New curtains and fencing.
- Parkdene Community Hall: New curtains and the hall was repainted and retiled.
- Rosemoor Community Hall: Interior walls were painted and Clearvu fencing installed.
- Lawaaikamp Community Hall: Kitchen was upgraded.
- Thembalethu Thusong Centre: Ablution facilities have been upgraded.
- Thembalethu Zone 9 Community Hall: Exterior lights were fitted for security purposes.
- Waboomskraal Thusong Centre: Furnished with new chairs and tables, and the ablution facilities were upgraded and tiled.
- Touwsranten Community Hall: Was repainted.
- Thembalethu Community Hall: The Swanepoel Committee Room was fitted with new lights.
- Uniondale Community Hall: Ablution facilities for persons with disabilities were installed.
- Lyonville Community Hall in Uniondale: Ablution facilities for persons with disabilities were installed, together with burglar bars.
- Haarlem Community Hall: Ablution facilities for persons with disabilities were installed, while safety improvements to the hall are currently being addressed.
The purpose of the Facility Management section
The core purpose of the Facility Management section is the effective management and maintenance of all community halls in George.
The section undertakes several functions including the hiring of community halls, the cleaning of the Civic Centre and all satellite offices, the provision of after-hours support to hall users, the delivery of maintenance services for municipal facilities including the Civic Centre, and the upgrading of all community halls.
