MOTORING NEWS - The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a safety recall notice for 146 Hino 300 series vehicles distributed across South Africa.

Affected models identified

- XZU600R
- XZU650R

Fault may lead to unsafe driving conditions
According to the supplier, the issue relates to a potentially incorrect component installed in the circuit board of the combination meter.
This defect could cause overheating, leading to:
- Speedometer malfunction
- Odometer malfunction
A failure of these critical instruments may increase the risk of unsafe driving conditions.
NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba emphasised the importance of swift action to minimise potential risks to motorists.
Consumers urged to book inspections immediately
Owners of affected vehicles are strongly encouraged to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised Toyota dealership for inspection.
If necessary, the combination meter will be replaced at no cost to the consumer.
The NCC noted that product recalls are a critical mechanism to:
- Protect consumer safety
- Prevent harm linked to defective products
- Ensure accountability among suppliers
The Commission continues to monitor the recall process in line with the Consumer Protection Act.
