Long delays in building approvals

I find it quite ironic that The George Herald gives the constructing companies a whole page about problems to get their plans approved (Article of the 16/06/2026) and in the the latest edition of the newspaper it points out on a whole page that our landfill is full.

The landfill is full, water restrictions are permanent because of the population growth, traffic in peak times is in many places stop and go, residential areas get plugged with detouring traffic, schools are full.

The unemployment in our town is growing because building more houses doesn‘t reduce unemployment, it creates local unemployment.

More people are job seeking but if they are lucky they get a contract for 6 months and then they have to look again. Constructing companies do not provide income stability.

I am very glad that the Municipality takes it‘s time, even delay might cause unfortunately major inconvenience to some individuals.

It is also important to look at objections from local residents. Hopefully the town slowly realizes that we need businesses to George which can give people permanent jobs so that the local young population can grow their living standards and have a stable income.

The town is at it’s service capacity in terms of water, waste, traffic and affordable good schools.

Climate change will become an additionally huge problem in the next 30 years. George will not escape especially heat, drought and floods. Town planning becomes very important now. Speeding up densification should not be prioritised.
