ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - It's clear that the cast of the George Society of Arts' latest production, Sweeney Todd, had just as much fun on stage as the audience had watching them.
The gruesome tale of the 19th-century London barber's wicked plot for revenge was met with enthusiasm during its four-show run at the George Theatre.
Now entering its final week - from Wednesday to Saturday, 5 to 8 November - Sweeney Todd promises another round of dark humour and haunting music, directed by Candice Koen.
What I enjoyed most were the dramatic scene changes, striking costumes and the rich tenor of Sthembiso Masango as Mr Pirelli.
The casting of Megan Loots as Mrs Lovett was spot-on, and seeing local pianist Christopher Petrie - usually behind the music - take centre stage as Sweeney Todd himself was a real treat.
The subject of cannibalism, grim as it may be, never fails to evoke intrigue and a touch of morbid fascination, especially when both the victims and the pie lovers remain blissfully unaware of what's really going on.
So for the love of pies, book your spot with the Demon Barber of Fleet Street for the closest shave you'll ever get.
