GEORGE NEWS - Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir is performing their spring concert, Classics from the Movies, in George, Sedgefield and Mossel Bay.
All the music in this programme is chosen from well-known classical music that has been used in movies at one time or another.
Operatic favourites like Nessun Dorma and The Slaves Chorus from Nabucco in their original lush orchestral and choral clothes will contrast with the rather naughty Mozart's Samba alla Turca and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade goes Latin, with virtuosic violin soloist Cherith Bain beguiling the audience with her seductive sounds.
Newcomer Carin Smit will solo in the slow movement of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, bringing back memories of Robert Redford and Meryl Streep in Out of Africa.
The programme of about 90 minutes is full of up-to-date versions of old favourites, as well as a few more traditional treatments.
Show times are as follows:
- Laerskool George-Suid (19:00) on Friday 27 September.
- Sedgefield DRC Hall (15:30) on Sunday 29 September.
- Mossel Bay Town Hall (15:30) on Sunday 6 October.
Tickets cost R150 per person and R50 for learners.
Also meet the Carpe Musicam! Pops Band for an hour of upbeat fun music at Great Brak DRC at 15:30 on 22 September as part of the Groot-Brak Musefees. For tickets and more details, visit carpemusicam.co.za
