The chefs will, for the fourth consecutive year, prepare top cuisine for the dinner on 25 August. Each chef will prepare a special menu to be served to 180 guests, in order to raise funds for the learners with special needs.
Learners at Carpe Diem number 260, of whom 75 are hostel-dwellers. Many of these learners come from homes that cannot afford to pay school funds. Money raised by Gourmets & Gourmands last year and this year will go towards installing a lift in the hostel.
"Your contribution and commitment is very much appreciated," said principal Karools Hauptfleish at the François Ferreira Academy on Friday. Restaurants taking part this year include Transkaroo, Kafe Serefe, la Locanda, Chef Alma, Buffelsdrift, Caloroso, House of Flavour, Top Two, Cafe de la Motte, Protea King George, The Gannet, Pomodoro, La Rosa Blu, The Rose on York and Salina's, as well as the South African Chefs Association (SACA), the local Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, and the François Ferreira Academy. Hartman & Sons Butchery this year came on board as the main sponsor.
The South Cape Old Car Club (SCOCC) provided classic cars to lend an air of authenticity to the preview for the great evening, which will be presented under the theme 'Roaring Twenties'. Chefs and committee members dressed up to add glamour to the occasion.
