GEORGE NEWS - The 2017 George Eisteddfod is well underway and school children from all over the Garden Route are participating in the many categories including dance, singing, drama (poetry readings), visual arts and instrumental performances.
As always there is a small group of dedicated people who work very hard behind the scenes to make the event possible.
The adjudication and performances take place at the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre, where tickets can be bought at R50 per person at the ticket office. The eisteddfod continues until 25 August. Please keep in mind that when adjudication is underway, attendance etiquette requires attendees to enter the hall from the back entrance (not the front) quietly, so as not to disturb the participants.
The eisteddfod culminates in a gala evening on Thursday 31 August during which certificates will be handed out and medal winners will give their best performances.
The judge is Margo-Marie Wood, an education lecturer and drama teacher at the department of education of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). She is the founder and director of Anex Theatre Productions. This year's event is sponsored by Finovo Accountants.
