GEORGE NEWS - The George Music Society starts the 200 year celebrations of George and the 55 years’ existence of the society with Musico Magnifico, a group of young upcoming opera singers from Cape Town consisting of Suan Steyn, soprano, Jacobi de Villiers, mezzo soprano, Christiaan Olivier, tenor, and Geran Steyn, bass baritone. The highly acclaimed local musician Deline Steenkamp-Brits, creator and leader of the George Male Choir will accompany them on piano.

They will perform on Sunday afternoon, 30 January at the Arts Theatre. Tickets cost R70 for adults, R50 for members and R20 for children. This endeavour is supported by the Western Cape department of culture and sport.
They will perform famous compositions such as Soave sia il vento and Frisch zum kampfe by Mozart, and Puccini’s O mio babbino caro, Habanera by Bizet, and many others. They will also sing some of the most beautiful classics from musicals such as Ol’ Man River.

Suan Steyn and Geran Steyn were born and bred in George. Jacobi is a versatile mezzo soprano and actress and has been described as a "consistent powerhouse voice and presence" on stage.

Suan and Jacobi are both members of the prestigious Voice of the Nation vocal ensemble that forms the core of the Cape Town Opera productions at Artscape. They have both performed in many operas such as Madame Butterfly, Dead man walking and Aida.
