GEORGE NEWS - The New Dawn Park pageant, a celebration of poise, talent, and advocacy, recently concluded its 2023 edition with a fervour that left the audience in awe on 2 December at New Dawn Park Primary School.
This annual event not only crowns individuals with titles like Teen, Miss, Mrs, and Mr New Dawn Park but also serves as a platform for empowerment, fostering personal growth, and community engagement.
Celebrating diversity and talent
Participants, hailing from varied backgrounds showcased their unique talents and personalities, transcending stereotypes, and challenging conventional beauty norms.
“It is our second event we host in the rural area named, New Dawn Park without any assistance from any pollical officials, or community leaders,” said founder and project director of Breathe Life Aftercare, Catherine Jafta.
Teen category
The Teen category witnessed the exuberance of youth, with contestants displaying remarkable talents, from music to spoken word poetry, from athletic prowess to advocacy for social causes close to their hearts. The winners were 1st Princess (Cassidy Carelse); 2nd Princess (Chloe April) and the winner were, Cheneek Koen.
Miss Category
In the Miss category, elegance intertwined with intelligence as contestants addressed pressing issues, championing causes ranging from environmental conservation to mental health awareness. Their grace and determination highlighted their commitment to making a positive impact in society. The winners were: 1st Princess (Anastacia Kiewiets), and Miss New Dawn Park were, Marisca Langiza.

Mrs Category
The Mrs category showcased the multifaceted roles of married women. These contestants, often balancing family responsibilities with personal aspirations, stood as exemplars of empowerment, inspiring others with their stories of resilience and dedication. The winners were: 1st Princess (Angel Jaftha), 2nd Princess (Lee Ann Veldman), and the winner Mrs New Dawn Park were, Wendy Portland.
Mr Category
The Mr category brought forth a blend of charm, intellect, and charisma. These individuals showcased their talents, demonstrated leadership qualities, and shared their visions for a better tomorrow, sparking inspiration among their peers. The winners were: 1st Prince (Jordan Gertse); 2nd Prince (Dudley Micheals), and Mr New Dawn Park were, Kyle Koeries.

Beyond the crown
While the glitz and glamour of the pageant captivate attention, the true essence lies in the participants' commitment to advocacy and community involvement. Each contestant leveraged their platform to raise awareness about various social issues, working towards creating a more inclusive and empathetic society.
Through workshops, mentorship programmes and community initiatives, the New Dawn Park pageant continues to be a catalyst for positive change.
The founder and CEO of Crawlers & Crowns Model Academy, Karen Gray chose six contestants to participate in the Top Model SA Pageant America 2023. They are Raymondo Mellville, Reajade Jantjies, Angel Jaftha, Cheneek Koen, Cassidy Carelse and Lee Ann Veldman.
The organisers thanked all the sponsors and collaborators as well as the broader community and contestants who made this event possible.
