ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Some of cinema’s most memorable music will be heard in the Garden Route this weekend when the Carpe Musicam! Concert Orchestra and Choir brings its spring concert series, Magnificent Movie Music, to George this Friday and Mossel Bay on Sunday.
The George performance takes place at Laerskool George-Suid at 19:00 on Friday 9 October, followed by a performance at the Mossel Bay Town Hall at 15:30 on Sunday 11 October.
Audiences can look forward to the ever-fresh melodies of The Sound of Music, the dramatic and soul-stirring music of The Mission, and the swashbuckling adventure and passion of The Mask of Zorro.
The Garden Route-based orchestra and choir will take audiences on a 90-minute musical journey through a dozen epic movie themes spanning more than eight decades of cinema history.
The programme reaches back to the 1940 film, Strike Up the Band, and travels through 84 years of movie music to the haunting theme from Ladies in Lavender (2004).
Popular local violinist and violin teacher Marie-Jean Kotzé will add another special dimension to the programme, performing the solo violin part with both skill and emotion.
Tickets are R180 for adults and R60 for scholars, and can be booked on the Carpe Musicam! website. Tickets may also be available at the door, but audiences are advised to book early as these popular concerts tend to sell out.
Refreshments will be on sale for an hour before each performance.
