ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - It is quite difficult to find the correct words to accurately describe the emotions of the team behind the short film, My father, my responsibility (MFMR), after the first screening on Saturday 10 September at the Nelson Mandela University George Campus.
So says the casting director and communication head for the film, Udochukwu Obi, after the wildly successful event that saw 300 people, eager to get the first viewing of the film, fitted into a venue designed for 200.
They came from all sides of the city to see the movie, which was written by Yandisa Ndzeku and directed by Andile Nodada.
After the screening of the movie, the audience was given an opportunity to express views and opinions on the film, with all criticisms and praises being welcomed.
The evening also included performances from local poetic talents such as Lwando Imbongi and Asekho Toto, both based in George and both having a passion for storytelling.
Clive Magwaniza, one of the executive producers of the film, also offered some words of encouragement to the largely youthful audience, as well as additional insight into some of the inner workings of independent film-making.
Obi ascribed MFMR's success to the help of platforms such as George Herald and EDENfm, among many others, thanking them for their support.
"As a collective, the MFMR team would like to send their most heartfelt appreciation out to the entire George community for the continuous support and guidance during this process," he said.
"These efforts are not going unnoticed, and they intend on expanding the creative culture within the city one step at a time. Most specifically, we would like to thank the Nelson Mandela University community for opening their doors and allowing us to share this film with the world - a step at a time."
The next screening of the film will be at the Bertha House in Mowbray, Cape Town on Saturday 17 September at 14:00.
Following that, additional screening opportunities and information will be shared via the MFMR social media pages (mfmr.film on Instagram) and (MFMR on Facebook).
