GEORGE NEWS - The Dotsure George Arts Theatre is holding the first Grand Ol' Dame Arts Festival at the theatre from 17 to 20 March.
"This is very exciting," said chair of the George Society of Arts, René van Rensburg.
"We hope to continue this festival annually. Frontliners from across the country have been invited to perform, specifically the 'Grand ageless Dames' of South African theatre, Lizz Meiring and Marion Holm. Lizz Meiring is bringing both an English (Tour de Forces) and an Afrikaans show (Weduwee se Sjampanje) and we are very excited to have both her and Marion Holm (Holmruggery) as part of our festival."
Also performing is Hannes van Wyk (Sielskos), known to the South African public through his theatre and TV performances.
On all three days the festival will be an all-day event, with three shows as well as a free cocktail sunset hour that showcases George's musical talent. During the cocktail sunset hour, you can also enjoy a drink in the beautiful 116-year-old Grand Ol' Dame Arts Theatre.
The Carpe Musicam! Boutique Band will be catering for those who enjoy classical music, and the well-known children's show Klikkerland will provide entertainment for the children. "We are also excited to bring the Dame of Jazz concert to the George Arts Theatre - an infusion of soft jazz by well-known George jazz musicians," said Van Rensburg. "We are incredibly grateful to the George public for supporting the Arts Theatre and we look forward to an exciting 2022 where the arts can grow in George and we can once again fill our theatre."
All tickets are available at Computicket and at the theatre office. The fun, musical singing and dance show, Walt's Singalong, put on by Glenwood Children's Theatre, is already sold out! View the rest of the line-up (time slots and ticket prizes) online at George Arts Theatre.
