The well known and much valued George Male Choir will start the evening's proceedings, with the Singing Cadets being the main attraction of the evening. A combination of songs between the two choirs is not excluded.
The Texas A&M University Singing Cadets were established as an all-male chorus in 1893. Texas A&M was originally an all-male, military institution. Therefore, at one time, all of the members of The Singing Cadets were members of the Corps of Cadets.
However, Corps of Cadets membership is no longer a requirement for membership in the Singing Cadets. The Singing Cadets started the fall of 1995 academic semester with their current director, David L. Kipp. Kipp is the thirteenth director of the 60-member men’s choral group. Under his lead, the Singing Cadets are staying true to their crisp military style and diverse selection of music.
A Singing Cadets concert will include a wide variety of music. With traditional school songs as the bookends for the show, the program consists of religious, patriotic, Broadway, popular, and novelty numbers. In the last ten years, the Singing Cadets have travelled widely, performed over 450 concerts. They have performed for every living American president.
The group has toured to Romania, Mexico, Germany, England, Switzerland, Hungary, Australia, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. The George Male Choir has also been able to bring the joy of music to many local and international fans with visits to the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Germany, Austria and the Chech Republic, and not forgetting their performances in the Royal Albert Hall and their participation and fifth place in the International Male Choir Festival in Cornwall. The choir has been invited back to the international concert in 2011, and together with a standing invitation to visit the USA, this combination of highly talented choirs must not be missed.
The concert will take place on 26 May from 19:00 in the Tuinedal NG Church in George. Tickets are available at R50 from Tip-Top Jewellers, Koos Cronje Haarkappers or from any choir member.
