ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - A mountain of dog and cat food filled the foyer of the George Arts Theatre on Saturday 16 May as audiences arrived for the gala performance of Dance Mosaic: Dancing for Dogs.
The annual fundraiser, led by Abbi Geldenhuys of the Abbi Geldenhuys Academy of Ballet (Agab), raised an impressive R88 000 through ticket and raffle sales across four performances.
The funds will go directly to the event's beneficiaries - PDSA, Cat Garden Route, York High Animal Club, Sentiara and Borcherds Paws - to help fund animal sterilisation projects in the area.

"This is a lot of sterilisations!" one Cat Garden Route volunteer remarked as they took in the success of the event. The fundraiser brought together eight local dance schools in a vibrant celebration of dance and community service.

Special guest performances were delivered by Karla and Nico Fourie, as well as Hannah Marchall, who will be performing in the musical Cats, which is set to open abroad soon.
Geldenhuys, who also served as the evening's lively host, thanked the dancers, teachers, volunteers and supporters for their dedication and hard work to make the production one of the highlights on George's cultural calendar.
"I am blown away by the immense talent of the dancers in George, the dedication of their teachers, and the generosity of the sponsors. This is truly a production with heart," she said.
