GEORGE NEWS - The Market Community Theatre is celebrating its first Christmas this year with sherry, a bonfire and a Christmas show on 22 December with performing artists and carols.
"There is no charge at all - we just want people to come and experience the theatre," said theatre manager Heather Stead.
"Donations for renovations at the theatre will be welcomed." The evening kicks off at 18:30, with a line-up of three performances.
Jean-Pierre Verster, a romantic balladeer baritone from Pretoria, will charm the audience with his deep, rich voice, accompanied by well-known organist Dr Gerrit Jordaan, on piano. The musical quartet Sing4, with André Botha, Julie McFadden, Jaconett Brink and Paul Hoffman, as well as the Siyakhona Youth Choir - both from George - will each give a performance.
"In between we will have some rousing carols for everyone to join in," says Stead. "Afterwards there will be a bonfire and marshmallows and sherry, so come and join us and enjoy that Christmas spirit."
The Market Community Theatre opened its doors in July this year, and is steadily growing towards its goals - to bring arts to the people, and to give local artists a chance to perform.
