GEORGE NEWS - Seven Passes Initiative will be presenting the George July - with feathers and a twist - on Saturday 2 July.
"The event will provide connection, the opportunity to dress up and to enjoy the day with friends around the 'race track' while sipping wine or a cocktail of your choice," says Seven Passes director Wilmi Dippenaar.
"We plan a day full of fun and laughter and will even provide transport to and from the event at extra cost."
The venue is the George Riding Club and the event will be held from 11:00 till 17:00.
There will be six races – the first five races will be for businesses/ schools/ individuals/ churches/ friends to compete with each other and challenge each other. The 'horses' and 'jockeys' will get advertising time, just as in the Durban July.
Anyone can decide whether they want to 'sponsor' a horse for a race and these places to race will be sold at R750 per horse. The winner of each race will receive their entrance fee as a prize.
"We will not be betting on horses but individuals will be able to 'sponsor' a certain horse and cash prizes can be won," says Dippenaar.
The final race will be run by professional athletes and places to race are sold for R1 000 per horse. The winner of this race will be the ultimate winner of the George July 2022.
Businesses will be able to claim an 18A certificate for the donation of a horse. Spectators are invited to book tickets at R295 per person. Tickets include delicious eats, wine tasting, cash bar and watching the Durban July and the George July. "Dress up and go wild," invites Dippenaar.
Your money will go towards helping a rural child.
The event is supported by the George Herald Eat Local campaign. "We urge people to please encourage their friends and business partners to support our exciting new initiative," says Dippenaar.
