GEORGE NEWS - The community of George has the exceptional opportunity to see one of the great musicians of the day in action on Wednesday 19 March.
George Music Society presents the award-winning, internationally acclaimed concert pianist, Gustavo Romero, as artist at its next concert.
Romero, who hails from San Diego, will give a classical piano recital with compositions by Scarlatti, Schumann, Ravel and Chopin.
The concert takes place at the George Arts Theatre at 19:30. Tickets cost R170 per person, R50 for learners and only R150 for members, and are available at the theatre during office hours or at www.georgemusicsociety.co.za.
About the artist
Romero is renowned for his technical brilliance and has a reputation for his commitment to in-depth exploration of a wide variety of composers.
He discovered his gift and love for the piano at the age of five and gave his first public performance at the age of 10, winning his first competition.
At 13 he performed with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta. He attended the Juilliard music school from the age of 14 after Juilliard teacher Rudolf Serkin recognised his exceptional talent.
Romero has won many prizes and has performed with the world's famous orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Pops Orchestra and many more, including the Cape Town Philharmonic.
Romero has performed in most of the leading concert halls of the world including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Centre, the Great Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow.
A feature named film named Portrait of a Piano was produced about his life and artistry in 2012.
