GEORGE NEWS - Cansa George's office staff traded their usual work attire for colourful and fun outfits on Wednesday 30 September as part of its Wacky Wardrobe Challenge, an initiative aimed at raising awareness of childhood cancer and supporting children undergoing cancer treatment.
The challenge formed part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September and was held in support of Tough Living with Cancer (TLC). The Cansa staff highlighted the challenges children and families affected by cancer face.
Natalie Speelman, a social worker, said the day was about more than just having fun.
"The colourful outfits were intended to celebrate the innocence, joy and courage of children. We also wanted to encourage the community to support those going through cancer treatment," she said.
Blanco Primary and Kretzenshoop Primary accepted the Wacky Challenge and mobilised their school communities to collect much-needed necessities and essentials for TLC.
The donations will assist TLC in meeting some of the basic needs of paediatric cancer patients and provide comfort, dignity and practical support to children and their families during a difficult journey.
"The Wacky Challenge will remain open for the remainder of the quarter, and schools, businesses, organisations, families and individuals are invited to participate by collecting essential items for children undergoing cancer treatment," said Speelman.
"Every contribution, no matter how small, could make a difference and help remind children and their families that they are not alone."
Contact Speelman on 044 874 4824, 083 510 0249 or [email protected] to arrange for collection.
