GARDEN ROUTE SAILING NEWS - Eight high schools and seven primary schools from Mossel Bay, Knysna and George took part in the annual Eden District Inter Schools Regatta last weekend. The event was hosted by George Lakes Yacht Club.
The high schools fleet had 29 boats and completed four races, while the 20 boats in the primary schools fleet sailed five shorter races.
In the primary schools fleet Jean Paul Buys of Outeniqua Primary was leading from Tristan Boshoff (Glenwood Primary) and Ryan Steenkamp (Knysna Primary) while in the high schools fleet Conrad Holm (Glenwood House) was in the lead ahead of York High's Matthew de Villiers and Robyn Hellstrom on Saturday.
On Sunday only one slow race in a very light southerly breeze could be completed. Sean Vonk (Glenwood House) won the high schools race while Aydin Gething (Oakhill) won the primary schools fleet.
Conrad Holm (Glenwood House), on an Optimist, was the individual winner in the high schools fleet with Matthew de Villiers, on a Dabchick, second and Robyn Hellstrom, on a Laser Radial, third (both from York High).

For the primary schools fleet the individual winner was Jean Paul Buys (Outeniqua Primary) on an Optimist. Tristan Boshoff (Glenwood House) was second and Ryan Steenkamp (Knysna Primary) third.
Glenwood House is the winner of the high school 2019 Eden District Inter Schools Regatta. The team was represented by Conrad Holm, James Vonk and Sean Vonk who narrowly defeated the title holder, York High, with Matthew de Villiers, Robyn Hellstrom and Jordyn Soldin as their top three.
The overall winner in the primary schools fleet was Knysna Primary. Glenwood House finished second.
SA Sailing Eden District and George Lakes Yacht Club gratefully acknowledge Sotheby's International Realty (George) and Raubenheimers Attorneys for their sponsorship and contribution to the success of the event. Sponsorship for prizes was received from the Lego Foundation, Victoria Inn Surf Camp and Sanguine Wellness.
The George Lakes Yacht Club sailing season is coming to an end with its Closing Cruise taking place next Sunday.
During the following weekend, Easter weekend, many of the local sailors will be heading off to Theewaters Sport Club at Villiersdorp to compete in the SA Sailing Western Cape Dinghy Championships Regatta.
