SOUTHERN CAPE SPORT NEWS - About 23 shottists took part in a competitive clash between South Cape Airsoft and Jesters of War.
These two airsoft teams, representing Mossel Bay, George and Oudtshoorn, competed on a range covered in dense thicket outside Brandwag, which offered a challenging combat environment.
The clash was hosted as a benefit event for the Heart-to-Heart Care Centre, the social justice arm of New Life Church in Heiderand, Mossel Bay.
Both teams are keen to develop airsoft in the Garden Route.
Airsoft is a competitive team shooting sport, which developed in Japan in the 1970s. Participants in airsoft shoot opponents with spherical plastic projectiles launched via replica air weapons, called airsoft guns.
Game play varies in style and composition, but often ranges among short-term skirmishes, organised scenarios, close-quarter battle, field, military simulations (MilSim) or historical re-enactments.
Combat situations on the battlefield may involve the use of military tactics to achieve objectives set in each game.
